Vajra and Bell perfectly balanced: Equanimity the antidote to ill-will and aversion

Sunday, October 25th @ 10:00 am 4:15 pm

Led by Shubha

This Day retreat will be presented in the ritual context of Akshobhya and Locana, the blue male and female Buddhas with the mirror-like wisdom. Akshobhya’s name means ‘Unshakable’ and he holds a vajra. Locana’s name means ‘One with the Eye’ and she holds the vajra-bell. Contemplating them is the antidote to hatred and ill-will, and aversion to experience.

We will explore opening the Dharma eye and seeing with the perspective of impermanence and dependent arising and thus the potential for spiritual growth. We will enter the path of equanimity that transcends the ups and downs of worldly life poised like the Vajra of Truth and spontaneously spacious like the Void of the Bell.

There are three Order Members in Ipswich who took the meditation of Akshobhya at ordination, Ariyanivata, Silavapi and Shubha. As part of ‘The Year of Akshobhya’, they will all be sharing personal experience.

When through intense aggression I wander in samsara, On the luminous light-path of the mirror-like wisdom
May the Blessed Aksobhya go before me
His consort Buddha-Locana behind me;
Help me cross the bardo’s dangerous pathway
And bring me to that perfect Buddha state.
