Young Buddhist: First Friday
December 1, 2023 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Karma vs Justice
Karma is one of the most misunderstood concepts in Buddhism. It’s not quite as straightforward as, “When we do bad things, bad things happen to us”. Karma is, in fact, a complex concept where many conditions – not just the behaviour of one individual – can determine the ethical outcomes of someone’s actions.
Many believe Karma has close links with Justice. But the concept of Justice varies across cultures and legal systems. Behaviours that are perfectly legal in society could have a negative karmic effect, and vice versa.
How do we reconcile our own ideas of “Justice” and “fairness” with the law of Karma? And how do we respond when cultural ideas of “Justice” come into direct conflict with Buddhist teachings on Karma?
Come along for a lively discussion on one of Buddhism most popular teachings.
Friendship, Connection, Transformation and the all important Cake! Come and get it all at our First Friday class. There will be meditation, Buddhist teachings, lively discussions and the opportunity to get to know each other better.
