Leave a lasting legacy

If you are thankful for the Ipswich Buddhist Centre you are not the only one! Over the years, our wonderul Centre has supported thousands of people in their search for refuge. The great news is that there is much more we can do in the future to help people discover the Dharma and support them in their spiritual development. You can help by leaving a gift to the Centre in your Will.

If you haven’t yet made a Will it is an easy matter to leave the residue of your estate, a fixed sum or an item of value to The Centre (a registered charity).

If you do have a will it isn’t hard to add a codicil to an existing Will in order to support the development of the Centre in future years.

Leave a share of your assets

You can leave us a percentage of what is left of your assets – known as your ‘estate’ after you ensure that your family and loved ones have been taken care of.

This type of gift is known as a residuary gift and is easy to add to an existing Will without interfering with any specific sums you have left to family or friends. It also has the advantage that it will not be eroded in value by inflation over the years.

Wording to use to leave a residuary gift:
I leave my / X share(s) of my residuary estate for the Triratna Buddhist Community (Ipswich), 4 Friars Bridge Road, Ipswich, IP1 1RR , registered charity number 1023335 (England & Wales), absolutely for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer for the time being shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors.

Leave a fixed sum

You may wish to leave a stated sum of money. This kind of gift is known as a pecuniary gift.

Wording to use to leave a pecuniary gift:
I give free of inheritance tax £X to Triratna Buddhist Community (Ipswich), 4 Friars Bridge Road, Ipswich, IP1 1RR , registered charity number 1023335 (England & Wales) for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer for the time being shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors.

Leave a specific item of value

You may wish to leave us a particular item (known as a specific bequest), which can be sold to support our work. It could be property or an item of value such as an antique or a piece of jewelry. If you are considering leaving us a specific item, please contact our Chairman to discuss this further.

Changing your Will

The easiest way to make a change to your Will is to use a Codicil (an additional instruction that you can add to your existing Will). A solicitor will be able to advise you of the best way to do this, depending on your circumstances.
